Glendale Community Profile:
Glendale, Arizona’s fourth largest city, is the commercial, industrial and educational hub of the northwest portion of the Phoenix metropolitan area. As a result of a 47.7 percent growth rate between 1990 and 2000, Glendale was listed as the 19th fastest growing city in the U.S. for that period. Affordable quality homes, excellent educational institutions, and enjoyable recreational amenities have contributed to Glendale’s emergence as an especially attractive place to live and to establish a business. Glendale was established in 1892 by the New England Land Company for the Church of the Brethren of Illinois.

Glendale’s diversified economic base includes manufacturing, services, aerospace, communication, precision metal working and casting, chemicals, electronics and warehousing industries. A dynamic market with fast, cost-efficient travel make Glendale a prime business location. Located west of Phoenix, it is one hour closer to important West Coast markets an within the Interstate 17 corridor where many of the region’s largest high technology firms and telecommunication centers are found.
Scenic Attractions:
Historic downtown Glendale was voted Arizona’s Antique Capital by readers of both Valley and statewide newspapers. Visitors can stroll through more than 70 antique and specialty shops, including the Catlin Court Historic District, where residential bungalows have been converted to unique shops. Glendale’s 50 parks include Sahuaro Ranch Park, listed on the National Register of Historic Places; and Thunderbird Park, featuring over 1,000 acres of prime desert preserve and a favorite for hiking, horseback riding and picnicking. The Cerreta Candy Factory features self-guided and specially arranged tours that delight thousands of school children and visitors annually. The Glendale Arena is home to the National Hockey League’s Phoenix Coyotes and is a popular concert and entertainment venue.

Glendale offers a broad range of community and cultural facilities, an adult center, 61 parks, three libraries, five golf courses, a tennis center, several indoor and outdoor theaters, seven swimming pools, three bowling centers, a roller skating ring, and numerous museums within a half-hour drive. Also within a short drive from Glendale, spectator sports are available throughout the year.
